Climate Collection

Carbon Neutral

While the restrictions of 2020 provided time to reflect, 2021and 2022 become a call to action for me. I spent time researching and finding ways to reduce my carbon footprint with a view to evolving both my life and practice to carbon neutral in 2022 and a plan to reach Net Zero carbon by 2023.

This is neither easy nor straight forward, but what I have learned, is that important things take work and commitment. I have kept a blog (Down to Zero and Beyond) to document my journey, maybe it will be helpful to others on the same path. It's easier if we do it together - as best we can.

So far, my Climate Collection, is comprised of only one piece but this year will bring new work from a new workshop.

For this piece, I tried to account as well as I could with available data, the carbon footprint of the materials and making processes.

In order to offset the energy used to make both the material and the work, I have made significant changes in my personal life as well as the testing and development of the work. What I couldn't personally offset via changes in diet, travel, shopping, energy providers and such, I have offset via reputable, verfied UK based offset programmes.

The colours used represent the vibrancy and vitality of all our beautiful blue planet has to offer. The form is a slightly oval sphere that has started to deform in the heat. It feels like a valid metaphor.

We can make a difference and leave the world a better place than when we found it.
